Animal Crossing on Switch emulator
Use LDN local wireless in Ryubing or Eden to visit friends; back up your save. Official Nintendo online and Dream Addresses do not work in any emulator.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons runs on the current Switch emulators — Ryubing, Eden, and Ryujinx all boot it. The question players actually ask is not whether it runs, but whether they can visit friends and whether their island is safe. The short answer: local visiting works through LDN, official online features do not, and you should back up the save.
Visiting friends still works — with limits
-
Enable LDN and put both players on one networkAnimal Crossing's "local play" is what emulators can reproduce. Turn on LDN in the emulator's network settings, then have both players connect over the internet — the host needs UPnP enabled on the router and the emulator allowed through the firewall. The game's local-play option becomes available instead of failing to connect.
-
Match the game version on both sidesBoth players need the same game update, or the visit will fail or desync. This is the single most common reason a "local visit" doesn't connect. Both players report the same game version.
-
Back up your island before testingAnimal Crossing saves are precious and emulator crashes during online sessions can corrupt them. Copy your save file before you experiment with visits or time changes.A backup copy exists outside the emulator's save folder.
What does not work
Official Nintendo online is out of reach: there is no real Dream Address visiting, no Nintendo Switch Online features, and no connecting to real Switch consoles. Those depend on Nintendo’s servers, which no emulator reaches. If a site promises “Animal Crossing online on emulator”, it means the local LDN visiting above, not Nintendo’s service.
Keep your island intact
Keep the emulator and the game update matched, avoid loading a save from a different region, and back up regularly. For the general online picture across emulators, see the Switch online page.
