Mario Kart 8 Deluxe crashing fix

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe usually runs well on Switch emulators, so when it crashes the cause is narrow and specific rather than “the game is broken”. There are two documented crash modes right now: a Vulkan feature error on macOS Tahoe, and a build that crashes only the first time you open the game.

What to do

1. Update to the newest build
   Both crash modes are build-specific and get patched. Updating is the first move, because a crash fixed upstream won't come back on a current build.
   The crash no longer reproduces on the new build.
2. On macOS Tahoe, avoid the broken Vulkan path
   The VK_ERROR_FEATURE_NOT_PRESENT crash means the renderer asked the Metal/Vulkan layer for something it can't provide. Try OpenGL or the Metal backend where offered, and use the latest build that reports this fixed.
   The game reaches the title screen instead of crashing.
3. For the first-open crash, just relaunch
   One tracked build crashes only the first time MK8 is opened, then runs normally. If that matches you, close and open the game again rather than reinstalling anything.
   The second launch plays normally.
4. Rule out firmware and mods
   A boot crash can also be a missing firmware file or a mod loaded for the wrong game version. Disable mods and confirm firmware before filing a bug.
   It boots with mods off and firmware installed.
