android emulator questions
Check which Android emulator fits your task and which Switch and console emulators run on Android, with fixes for the common failures.
Android emulation splits into two separate questions: which emulator runs Android apps on your desktop, and which console emulators run on Android itself. This page answers both, and points to the specific fix pages when an emulator won’t start.

What is the best Android emulator for PC?
It depends on the job. BlueStacks, LDPlayer and MEmu are the three mainstream choices for running Android apps and games on Windows; LDPlayer leans gaming, BlueStacks is the broadest, MEmu is light. For retro and console emulation on Android itself, RetroArch is the front-end that ties everything together. There's no single best — pick by what you're running.
BlueStacks vs LDPlayer vs MEmu — which should I use?
BlueStacks has the widest app compatibility and the most polish. LDPlayer is tuned for games and often lighter on resources. MEmu is the smallest footprint and good on low-end machines. All three need virtualization enabled and can conflict with Hyper-V on Windows 11. If one won't start, the others usually will with the same fix.
Can I run a Switch emulator on Android?
Yes, but not Ryujinx, Ryubing or the original Yuzu. Ryubing's download page lists Windows, macOS and Linux only — no Android build. Android is served by separate projects: Eden (Yuzu-derived, Android listed on its own download page), Citron Neo (README states Windows, Linux, macOS and Android arm64) and Kenji-NX, a Ryujinx-derived Android fork whose public release repository has been caught in the takedown waves. They install separately from the desktop versions and carry Android-specific bugs.
Can Ryujinx run on Android?
No. Ryujinx is desktop-only (Windows, Linux, macOS), and its continuation Ryubing keeps that same set — its download page offers Windows 10/11, macOS on Apple Silicon and Linux x64/ARM, with no Android build. For Android the Ryujinx-lineage option is Kenji-NX, a separate fork that runs its own Android issue tracker — its public release repository has been caught in the takedown waves. Community Ryubing Android forks do exist, but they are unofficial and describe themselves as unstable.
Can I run PCSX2 on Android?
No. PCSX2 has no Android version; it's Windows and Linux only. For PS2 on Android you'd use AetherSX2 or NetherSX2, which are separate projects. Don't expect the desktop PCSX2 to appear on Android — it won't.
Can RPCS3 run on Android?
No. RPCS3 is desktop-only (Windows, Linux, macOS, with a recent macOS build). There is no Android RPCS3, and given the PS3's complexity, one isn't practical on phones yet. PS3 on mobile isn't a real option in 2026.
Can Dolphin run on Android?
Yes. Dolphin has a long-standing, well-supported Android app and runs GameCube and Wii games on phones and tablets well. It's one of the most mature mobile console emulators. Get it from the official Dolphin source, not a repackaged 'Dolphin emulator for Android' mirror.
Can RetroArch run on Android?
Yes. RetroArch is available on Android and is the main way to run many retro systems (NES, SNES, Genesis, PS1, and more) on mobile. It's a front-end, so each system is a core you download inside the app. It's free and official on the Play Store.
Is EmuDeck available on Android?
No. EmuDeck is built for Steam Deck and Linux/Windows desktops; there's no Android version. On Android, RetroArch and the individual emulator apps cover the same ground. The 'EmuDeck Android APK' you may see is not official and isn't EmuDeck.
Is RetroBat available on Android?
No. RetroBat is Windows-only — its system requirements list Windows 11, 10 and 8.1 — so it doesn't run on Android. On mobile, RetroArch covers the same ground. A 'RetroBat for Android' download is mislabeled or repackaged, not the real project.
Is there an Android emulator for Mac?
For running Android apps on macOS, the choices are thin — most Android emulators target Windows. BlueStacks has had a Mac version but support has been inconsistent; check the current build. If you just want to sideload and run an APK, Android Studio's emulator is the reliable Mac route.
Is there an Android emulator for Linux?
Yes. Waydroid is the popular Linux-native option that runs Android directly on the Linux kernel, and Android Studio's emulator works too. The Windows-favourite emulators (BlueStacks, LDPlayer, MEmu) don't have native Linux builds, so Waydroid is the go-to on desktop Linux.
Why won't BlueStacks open on Windows 11?
Almost always a Hyper-V or virtualization conflict. BlueStacks needs the machine's virtualisation layer that Hyper-V, Core Isolation and Virtual Machine Platform occupy. Turn those off and clear the Hyper-V boot flag, then repair BlueStacks — see the Hyper-V conflict fix.
Why won't LDPlayer or MEmu open?
Same class of problem as BlueStacks: virtualization off in the BIOS, or Hyper-V/Core Isolation blocking the engine. Enable VT-x or SVM in the BIOS and disable the Windows hypervisor features, then reinstall. See the virtualization disabled and MEmu not opening fixes.
How do I fix an Android emulator crash or black screen?
First confirm virtualization is on and no other emulator is holding the hypervisor. Then update the emulator and your GPU drivers. A black screen on launch is usually a renderer or driver issue, not the app itself. The virtualization and Hyper-V fixes above resolve most 'won't start' cases.
