steam rom manager not adding games

Steam ROM Manager Steam ROM Manager / EmuDeck, RetroBat Last verified October 2026 Risk: none
Quick answer

Steam ROM Manager adds nothing when the parser or ROM folder is wrong. Select the right parser, set its ROM path, then run the preview before saving.

Steam ROM Manager (SRM) adds zero entries when the parser doesn’t match your setup or it’s looking at the wrong folder. The fix is almost always in the parser selection and the ROM path, not the app itself.

Make the parser see the ROMs

  1. Select the right parser
SRM needs a parser that matches your install — the EmuDeck parser, a RetroBat parser, or a per-console one. A mismatched parser points at folders that don't exist on your machine, so it finds nothing.
The chosen parser matches your frontend (EmuDeck or RetroBat).
  2. Point the parser at your ROM directory
Set the parser's ROM path to the actual folder. EmuDeck's default is ~/Emulation/roms/<system>. If your ROMs live elsewhere, the parser scans an empty default and adds nothing.
The path resolves to a folder that contains your ROM files.
  3. Run Preview before saving
Hit Preview to see exactly what SRM would add. An empty preview means the path or the file-extension filter is wrong — fix it there instead of saving and wondering why Steam is empty.
The preview lists your games with artwork before you save.
  4. Check the ROM format
Some parsers expect extracted ROMs or specific extensions. If your files are zipped in a way the parser doesn't accept, extract them or pick a parser that handles archives.
The file types in the folder match what the parser expects.

After saving

Restart Steam so it picks up the new shortcuts, then re-run SRM any time you add ROMs — it only parses what’s currently in the folder.
