yuzu prod keys not found fix

Quick answer

Yuzu can't find your prod keys. Put prod.keys in Yuzu's keys folder and restart. If the file is missing, it can only come from your own console.

Yuzu needs two files from your own console to run games: the prod.keys file (title keys) and system firmware. When either is missing, the emulator refuses to load games and the log reports a keys error. This is not a bug in Yuzu — it means the keys folder is empty, misplaced, or the file has the wrong name.

Put the key file where the emulator looks

  1. Find Yuzu's keys folder
Open Yuzu, go to File → Open Yuzu Folder, then open the keys/ folder inside it.
You should see a folder named keys — if it doesn't exist, create it with that exact name.
  2. Check the file name and location
The file must be named exactly prod.keys and sit directly in keys/ — not in a subfolder, not renamed to prod.keys.txt.
If Windows shows file extensions, confirm the name ends in .keys, not .keys.txt.
  3. Check the file isn't empty or truncated
Right-click the file → Properties. A complete keys file is at least several hundred KB.
A file of 0 KB or a few bytes is a failed transfer — delete it and re-copy from your own dump.
  4. Restart Yuzu completely
Close Yuzu fully (including the system tray icon), then reopen it. Keys are only read at startup.
The keys error should be gone from the log — check via View → Log if you want to confirm.
  5. Load your game again
Add your game directory if you haven't, then double-click the game. First load compiles shaders and takes a minute.
The game reaches its title screen instead of erroring out.

If the keys file is missing

If the keys/ folder is empty, no settings change will help — the file has to come from your console. Dumping it requires hardware and homebrew access on a Switch you own; the procedure is outside what this page covers, and we deliberately don’t link dumping tools. If you’re switching from Yuzu, an existing keys file usually works with Eden and Ryubing unchanged — point them at the same folder instead of dumping again.

Telling keys errors from firmware errors

If the error mentions firmware rather than keys, the fix is different — see ryujinx firmware version mismatch. If Yuzu closes before the log appears, start from the Switch hub. For the bigger question of which emulator to run in 2026, see which Switch emulator still works.
